Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee cooled

Instructions

  • Turn on the oven and set it to 350°F (175°C). Put some oil and flour on two round cake pans that are 9 inches wide.
  • In a big bowl, put the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Use a sieve to make them fine and smooth.
  • In another bowl, break the eggs and add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix them well with a whisk.
  • Slowly pour the egg mixture into the flour mixture. Stir them together until they are well mixed. Don’t overmix them.
  • Add the coffee that has been cooled down. The batter will be watery – that’s okay, it should be like that.
  • Divide the batter into the two cake pans. Make sure they are even.
  • Put the cake pans in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes. You can check if they are done by poking them with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out clean, they are ready.
  • Take the cakes out of the oven and let them cool down in the pans for 10 minutes. Then take them out of the pans and put them on a wire rack to cool down completely.
